I've always been addicted to travelling. It all started in my university years when I took a year off, slapped a backpack on, and spent a year going overland through Europe, the Middle East and on to India. In the early 70's places like Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran & Afghanistan were not off limits. Since then I have headed off at every opportunity. I abhor package vacations, tried it once & was bored. The thought of a Cruise does not appeal to be, even at 50 I'm much happier in a hostel. My latest vacation in 2001 was spent in Guatemala where my partner Terry (she's an environmental engineer) & I spent the summer doing a water quality study of Lake Atitilan in the Guatemalan Highlands.
I'm not much for keeping journals, but I did for one trip, an overland journey across Africa in 1998. Its at the link below. I also have some information on a stint with Habitat for Humanity in The Dominican Republic.
